Salford Council sends letter saying you owe 1p

Council-tax-bill_998405c    The crazy  thing is that due to being disabled my council tax is paid by the council so they have sent an arrears letter to them selves.. Comment well done to the person who decided to send this out. No wonder we are in such a mess. Role on the Elections  One word springs to mind inept.

More gems from Mr Kingston at the Salford Star .

MARY BURNS – HAZEL BLEARS SOLVES POVERTY

Superhazel is now going solve all our problems…

Poor Hazel’s digging a deeper hole every time she opens her gob. Today she’s launching a new document “supporting those communities where the most severe poverty…persists.”

Obviously not her tv room then.

Hazel Blears has today launched Transforming Places: Changing Lives – a “new framework for regeneration that will help the sector through the downturn”

…First of all we have to ask `Which sector is this?’  Will that be the regeneration sector where everyone works on huge salaries chucking public money at developers who have taken the wads and stuck up a few shoddy houses that no-one can afford? And who then go back cap in hand to Hazel pleading to be baled out when it all falls flat?

Hazel in her speech to the British Urban Regeneration Association`confirmed the planned £6.5bn investment in regeneration across the country over the next two years in reflection of this priority’.

She added “Over the last ten years we have shown we can make a difference with many areas turned around because of the commitment we have shown and record investment we have made”…Not on your own doorstep, Hazel. The figures haven’t moved – see our `jam tomorrow feature‘…

Regeneration, Hazel says, is now to be judged against three new success measures

1) `improving economic performance’ – don’t pay Capital Gains Tax?
2) `creating the right conditions for business growth’ – become an MP and Cabinet minister?
3) `creating places that people want to live’ – buy a flat in Kennington and flog it for a profit after claiming allowances?

Sorry Hazel, we all want more regeneration money but handing it out to the same speculators and losers who messed it up last time is no answer. Come up with proper ideas – if you’re still there in a few weeks time.

PS. Can we have some funds for Salford StarBlears

Labour and Conservatives both suffer in first post-expenses poll

The first poll since the Telegraph began reporting the details of MPs expenses suggests the public are taking a plague on all your houses approach (or at least, a plague on both your houses, since the Liberal Democrats haven’t suffered).

The topline figures, with changes from Populus’s last poll, are CON 39%(-4), LAB 26%(-4), LDEM 22%(+4). Other parties are at 13%, up four points (though it’s worth noting that this isn’t some sort of unprecedented boost which that might imply, Populus have quite often had “others” up at 12% over the last year).

This is the first poll of 2009 to show the Conservatives below 40%, and leaving aside ICM, who always give them a higher level of support, it is the highest level of support the Liberal Democrats have recorded since 2006. It is the highest figure Populus have given them since 2005. It’s tempted to ascribe this solely to the expenses scandal, though it’s worth remembering that this is also one of the first polls since the government’s defeat over Gurkhas, an issue that the Liberal Democrats lead upon.

From Cllr Warmishams Blog

Yet another planning application for a hot food shop in Langworthy. I’m sick of it, why won’t somebody look at opening a greengrocers!

Well you have my support and also my fellow members. we believe that obesity is a problem and we are excited that you have taken up this challenge. We must be role models i  personally have lost over two stone by giving up beer and pork pies. Perhaps we could together do a sponsored slim for charity.

Political balance what a great idea offering a cross party view.

“The membership is politically balanced, which means the number of
places given to a political group is proportionate to the number of
Councillors the group has on the Council.”

Any one reading this blog today can i ask you a question.

Do you believe it is a safe practice for the ruling group of any council to try to stack committees set up to scrutinise it’s decisions with it’s own members.

Smack of Stalin? comments…

Information the most powerful weapon for the political animal.

It’s funny the more information you have relating to any issue gives you the chance to make the best informed decision. But what if some one holds back that information. You could make the wrong choice easy as that. How easy then is it for someone to do that. I suppose very easy, something i will be asking a lot about in the coming months. so as they say watch this space.

We must start to see the seeds of open and transparent government grow Localy and Nationally

The events of the past week in relation to MP’s expenses have torn this country apart. We are in the midst of a recession, jobs are being lost. and people are losing their homes. And the digracefull events that are unfolding in London are a shameful example of the worst in politics. I feel that the only honorable thing these people could do would be to resign and take their ill gotten gains with them. As a councillor i must declare anything over £25.00 every one including officers within councils must do the same. Anything that involves expenses must be open and transparent. People who abuse these system set up to help them must be named and shamed.
