How many independents will stand in 2010 and with the vote share raising fron the BNP will we see a change in the political Map?

with 2 comments

I been taking some time out to study the key areas which could fall in 2010.The split vote worries me, it’s obvious who the key people will be and the vibes i am getting back at present could offer a few shocks. I don’t think the tories will have everything there own way.  And i really don’t believe the Labour vote will collapse in Salford, any one who thinks it will ,to be honest is in for a shock.Of course any one who puts in a good campaign as a good chance, but the message as to be clear. I have looked at a couple of campaigns over the past two years and tried to see what went wrong. What do the electorate really go for? i have a few ideas but i think i will keep it to my self for now. I don’t think i will be working on any serious campaigns in 2010 except my own, i have set up my own team and opened a contract with a Local printer. Lets hope i can get the message across. It’s going to be hard. But like my good Friend John Pooley  said pick up the ball son and run with it. I hope to have Both John and Peter Smith working along side us with some old favorites including Mole Junior. If we lose i can assure everyone they will no we had been in the fight.

World Famous babes. The facts.

without comments

There seems to be a lot  of missed placed comment running round the net at the moment, but the facts are it is no nearer to closure than it was three months ago. That is even with the intense actions by the Police. It is a credit to them for the effort they have shown. I have received letters this week which i cannot publish but i have requested meetings with the author of the post to seek clarification on points of law. I have made it quite clear i have no intention to let this matter drop and i will offer what i can to public domain subject to legal advice. It concerns me that the owners of these premises are flouting the law.

Tonight i ask the question have we made a mistake in allowing our social housing to fall in to the hands of private bodies?

I have raised the issues time and time again over the level of residents desperate for housing, and this is what we see months later. It’s not good enough. The people of this city voted for change  and after looking at this tonight i feel devastated. Perhaps we need to to look at this issue as a matter of urgency. I had the benefits for many years of  council property and i was pleased to see atlast this Government is to build more. But If we are to build them we should as councils have the same rights to maintain them and demand that this is not allowed to happen . Our residents should not have to face this.

HAZEL MUST GO! SALFORD MEETING

LOADS TURN UP TO VENT ANGER OVER HAZEL

Last night over fifty people turned up at Pendleton Bowling Club in Salford to support the Hazel Must Go! campaign. And it was decided that the campaign really starts now…

”I’d rather put my poodle up for election than Hazel Blears” declared Victor to much applause “The only thing she’s very good at is the Save Hazel Campaign…”

This set the tone of the evening as people from all over Salford aired their own grievances about the MP who won’t stand down. Rita, a nursery worker, said that so many people don’t know their rights – “I’m here to stand up for them”…

There were people from Langworthy who received almost nothing for their houses, complaining about Hazel’s grand plan for the area – bring in Urban Splash and hand them over £20million to re-do the properties at an unaffordable sale price.

There was David Henry from Salford Youth Council, complaining that the authorities were trying to shut them down as being `undemocratic’…There was Gary Duke, recently sacked from Salford University, who has helped to expose extravagant expenses of the University bosses.

There was Steve North from the Save Our Post Offices campaign which, he said, had Hazel’s backing before she went back to Parliament and did nothing. There were people talking about Hazel’s hypocrisy over the Hope Hospital Maternity ward closure…There were people who had never received replies to letters sent to Hazel. There were people who had their letters to Hazel passed on to the very people they were complaining about. There were people from Wythenshawe and Wigan sharing experience from similar campaigns against their MPs…

But, most poignant, was the poem about Hazel read out by Leigh Edmenson, in memory of her cousin, Neil Hill…

We’ve lost faith, you can’t be trusted,
Discovered secrets, they’re out, you’re busted,
You betrayed your people, your council’s tenants,
To lose your seat must be your penance,
Come on, face your fears Blunder Blears!

Everyone at the meeting agreed that this was just the start…the petitions, the posters, the campaign was well and truly launched. Watch this space.

It was a good meeting. There were many good speakers. I was particularly impressed with what Gary Duke had to say, and also the woman [unfortunately I didn't catch her name] who spoke of how she was cheated out of her Langworthy home by means of a compulsory purchase order.

A comment fron one Tory Councillor? who is right and who is wrong?

    without comments

Just one (cautionary) point though. Reference was repeatedly made to “the majority” of service users being from Little Hulton. This is simply not the case, whichever way you look at it. Little Hulton residents make up a small plurality, but the service users are actually fairly evenly distributed across the City. This is the only weak point in the residents’ otherwise watertight arguments and they need to stop saying it.

Can someone set this point straight or not?  is there any one with any concrete evidence. Where do you feel the centre should have been put? sorry for those not in the frame it’s the YOS centre

General Sir Richard Dannatt, the head of the Army and Sir Jock Stirrup, the Chief of the Defence Staff, have called for more troops and helicopters in Afghanistan.

Comment why are our men in this position expected to fight without the tools. I say get them out now…

Sir Jock said his forces needed as many helicopters as they could get and were “busting a gut” to draft more into service.

His comments are likely to cause more discomfort for Gordon Brown who on Thursday faced a grilling from MPs on equipment and troops after the Defence Select Committee warned a shortage of helicopters was undermining the “protection” of forces.

“In this situation where you have lots of improvised explosive devices, the more you can increase your tactical flexibility by moving people by helicopters then the more unpredictable your movements become to the enemy,” Sir Jock said, speaking in Downing Street after talks with the Prime Minister.

“Therefore it is quite patently the case that you could save casualties by doing that.”

Asked about whether British forces in Afghanistan had enough helicopters, the Air Chief Marshal said there was “no such thing as enough helicopters in an operational campaign”.

“If you are an operational commander you can always do more and do things better the more helicopters you have.

“If I thought we had enough helicopters in Afghanistan frankly we wouldn’t be busting a gut to get the Merlins we had deployed in Iraq ready to go out this time to Afghanistan.

“We need as many helicopters out there as we can get.”

His comments followed those of Gen Dannatt, who set out a “shopping list” of new equipment he wants to protect British forces from bomb attacks in Afghanistan.

The general’s requests, made in a BBC Radio 4 Today interview, are likely to strain further his relations with Labour ministers.

It comes as the Ministy of Defence announced another solider had been killed in Afghanistan, the 185th since British forces entered the country.

Some Labour MPs are privately accusing Gen Dannatt of overstepping his role, but the general insisted he will go on speaking out until he retires next month.

The Prime Minister earlier this year vetoed an Army request to send almost 2,000 more troop to Afghanistan on cost grounds. Gen Dannatt today repeated his call for more troops, suggesting a “short term uplift” in British number for between 12 and 18 months.

Britain has over 9,000 troops in Afghanistan after a “temporary” deployment of 700 more men to cover the Afghan elections next month. The MoD initially said that numbers would then fall back to 8,300, but Gordon Brown has promised to review that plan in the autumn.

Gen Dannatt today told ministers they must keep numbers at least 9,000.

“There is a feeling about that it might come back down to 8,300,” he said. “My observation is that that would be the wrong thing to do. I could not support that.”

Gen Dannatt also suggested that General Stanley A McChrystal, the US commander in Afghanistan, may ask Britain for more troops as part of a review he is conducting.

“If he asks the question, we have got to answer the question,” he said.

Gen Dannatt made clear he would support a rise in UK numbers.

“There may well be a case for a short-term uplift. Our Government would have to confront it if asked,” he said.

After the deaths of 15 soldiers in a 10-day period, the Government is under intense pressure over the equipment and vehicles in use in Afghanistan.

After visiting the country this week, Gen Dannatt said he returned with a list of new requirements.

British forces need more aerial surveillance capability to spot bombs being planted, he said. They also need greater human intelligence capacity to anticipate attacks.

Continuing British deaths from roadside bombs ultimately threaten the entire Western strategy in Afghanistan, he said, by undermining British public support for the mission.

“If we don’t get the tactic battle right, we risk strategic loss.”

Gen Dannatt also raised the possibility that the Treasury may be unable to fund his “shopping list” forcing the Ministry of Defence to find extra money for the Army in Afghanistan by dropping projects elsewhere, especially plans to buy new RAF aircraft and Royal Navy ships.

“If this is really important and the national finances are in such dire straits that we are not going to get more money from the Treasury, the MoD gets £34 billion and we may have to reorder our budget again.”

“That will not be welcome but it may be necessary,” he added.

First Minister Lord Mandelson said that the General’s comments “will be taken very seriously”.

Speaking in Derby, he said: “They will not go without whatever they need to carry out their very important operations in Afghanistan.”

Lord Mandelson said: “I don’t think that General Dannatt is politicising anything.

“He’s speaking up, quite rightly, from the front, bringing first- hand knowledge and experience.

“Ministers, as well as his own colleagues, will be responding quickly.”

And the Business Secretary criticised opposition politicians for politicising the issue.

He said: “For troops on the front line this is the last thing they need.

“They want to know they have the united backing of ministers and politicians from all parties behind their efforts and the huge task they have taken on.

“So I think opposition politicians need to be very wary of politicising a situation like this.

“It’s not needed, it’s not welcome and it’s not a good place to go.”

Unannounced checks on children’s services introduced after the Baby P case should be halted because they are unfair, senior officials have said. Hard luck i say put in more checks, what planet do these people live on?

Baby P checks ’should be halted’

    Baby P

Baby P died after months of abuse despite being monitored by officials

Ofsted, which is tasked with the inspections, has been accused by children’s services directors of using inspectors who are not well trained.

It is believed that out of the first nine councils checked, “serious concerns” were reported in six of them.

But critics say the concerns may simply relate to paperwork errors.

Baby Peter died in 2007 aged 17 months after suffering more than 50 separate injuries. He suffered a catalogue of abuse despite being seen by various health and social care professionals.

The new spot checks began last month but have sparked concern that they are too short to get a clear picture.

    Judgements

The Association of Directors of Children’s Services (ADCS) also say Ofsted’s inspectors are not talking to enough social workers.

It wants the checks stopped until these concerns have been addressed.

It also says the timescales mean judgements are based on processes and data rather than on quality of service.

The directors say that they are given an hour’s notice before an inspection. Inspectors randomly look at case files and computer systems, according to the ADCS.

    Determination

Ofsted say all staff carrying out the inspections are fully qualified and that the two day visits do allow them to observe frontline practice.

A DCSF spokesperson said: “Government has made clear its determination to do everything possible to make sure that all child protection services meet the needs of the vulnerable children and we must ensure child protection arrangements are effective everywhere.

“That is why we asked Lord Laming to prepare an urgent report of progress across the country to implement effective arrangements for safeguarding children and asked Ofsted to carry out unannounced annual inspections of children’s services across the country

BBC faces £2million redundancy bill over relocation

    without comments

BBC faces paying out a redundancy bill running into millions of pounds as half of staff are expected to refuse the move to the corporation’s new headquarters in Salford.
Well call me a cynic, but £2million pound is a neat figure that sounds strangely familiar?
