I am not a religious man but everyone tells me that the man who did this yesterday follows a religion of Peace, yet over the past couple of years all i have seen is hate. Will any one enlighten me.Because if that was my son or daughter who died in this tragic event, i for one would have little forgiveness.
Question with the shootings in America yesterday are we going to see a rush of Anti muslim feelings.?

Islam is not “a religion of peace” [if only it was] and it is not just a ‘religion’ either (in the secular Western mindset’s understanding of the word ‘religion’).
My wife is a practising Catholic, on rare occasions i have been to church with her but on each occasion all i have seen is acts of love for your fellow man. And i belief of a God who watches over us and someone who will be there in our death.Right or wrong true or false i cannot see anything wrong in that. We all need some form of belief and a grounding for our moral standing.But why over ten years have we seen a religion followed by i don’t no how many people accross the world that as never been a problem change to see so many young men and women who seem to be filled with nothing more than hate. Some of the barbaric acts i have seen cannot be allowed to be linked to a religion i feel these people are being brian washed by groups who have been allowed to develop, we never had anything like this, the only acts of terror we faced were from the IRA. I think this issue needs serious thought and intense discusion lets throw away political correctness and look for the answers.

At a rough guess I would say that one religion in the UK is probably responsible for deaths in the ratio of about 100,000 to 1 against the Islamic faith what religion do you think that is?
The occupation that is overwhelmingly most responsible for child abuse per person (by a massive margin) is what do you think Richard?
In the last 50 years divisions of what faith has been responsible for over 100 times more terrorist deaths in the British Isles than any other ?
I would say that the above could be used to argue that Christianity is perhaps the biggest problem in Britain and in some ways it would be very hard to dispute that.
However it’s not the religion that is to blame it is the way people choose to interpret it and the way that SOME people use religion as an excuse for their hate and anger towards others that are different from themselves that is the real problem.
Hatred and lack of tolerance is the REAL enemy of all civilization and all religion does id give some sort of a banner to perpetrate these acts under. I always thought that though what I always thought of as my religion had an atrocious human rights record in the distant past that it really was the religion of understanding and of love but thanks to you Richard I would no longer class myself as a Christian and instead I think I’d call myself an agnostic. Don’t get me wrong I still very much believe in forgiveness . love , charity and all the things I used to think of as the bedrock of faith but if being a true christian means I have to hate people for their sexuality or look down on them for their gender or because they follow a different faith ten you can shove it, I will judge each person and each act independently but to be honest that what I think the god I would want to follow would want me to do anyway.
To answer your original point Mole I think that education and demonstrations of peaceful intent would be far more effective in diffusing the racial and religious hatred that is simmering in the world today than the knee jerk military reactions that we seem to have these days, I also think that the blind support of Israel by the USA has caused a huge amount of the anti-western feelings prevalent in the Arab world and that intervention against some of their worst atrocities (if any other country did half the things they have then we would have taken action by now ) would bring about a better world peace or at least a better chance of getting there eventually. (If I am any judge of opinion I honestly believe that public opinion is turning very much in that direction anyway and in the next ten years the west will take some sort of action against Israel anyway)
As usual i value your comments, and your honesty. where do we go in this battle. Human life seems to come at a cheap price. I detest the idea of war and the human suffering it brings, if we are to stay we must go out to win. We cannot do things by halves

As for the Israel question let me ask you this, if the British army responded to roadside bombings with random missile attacks into defenceless Afghan villages I’m sure that you would be amongst the voices raised in protest and it’s that type of action I (and the overwhelmingly vast majority of British people) oppose, don’t you?
Again you want to brand me as anti- Christian so lets have a check list of your reasons
Abortion – My view is that I personally would never want a child of mine aborted BUT I support the woman’s right to choose (I would like to see the father have more of a say but thats a separate issue)
Pornography – I don’t agree with YOUR definitions such as the body painted girls who went on the charity march or the students who posed for the calender for example and neither would I support draconian censorship but I would support legislation for vastly increased sentences for child porn for example.
Homosexuality – I firmly support every adult’s right to choose a lifestyle or sexual orientation and not to be criminalised or victimised as a result. I am not gay but I would not want anyone treated differently because they are.
Sex outside of marriage – Pretty much exactly the same as the above I believe that everyone over the age of consent should be free to choose what works for them. I support a FAMILY unit whether married or not but unlike you I think that a family is based more on mutual love and respect than a piece of paper.
Prostitution – I personally believe that the best way of dealing with this issue is legalisation and strong rules regarding positioning of brothels, only licensed and fully health checked on a regular basis staff employed with far far stronger sentences for those that operate outside the rules. I am not naive enough to think that this will ever go away and my views are very much incline with organisations like the Women’s Institute for example.
Now whether you like it or not Richard my views are far far more inline with those of the people who have a say in what happens in this country and think of themselves as Christians than your are it’s a fact and if we just take Joe for example on the points I’ve listed above how many of my views would you have a different view on fundamentally Joe? (I know that there will be details that you will see things differently but in principle how many of the above are close to your own feelings please?)
Lastly Richard your comment on “Being an expert on Islam”, exactly what reasons can you give for making that claim? Have you studied and debated the subject in academia for years? Are you a published (remember a random web report that YOU published does not count in the real world) and respected by other experts in this subject? Have you lived under an Islamic government for decades perhaps?
Or is it the usual case of I have decided that I’m an experts so there that we’ve come to expect?
Do try and debate , pick holes in my viewpoints etc Richard, unlike you I am genuinely open to persuasion by strong and logical debate and differing point of view so if you can seriously refute some of the above then do so.
