Hi Joe
Firstly, there are now nine declared candidates for Salford and Eccles – plus the four (I think) for Broughton and Blackley and four (I think) for Worsley and Eccles South. It is physically impossible for us to feature all 15 of these candidates in great detail in every piece. Every candidate will get covered in detail in the run-up to the election, bearing in mind that we’ve got 11 weeks to go, so plenty of time. No doubt some people will not believe that, but I’m trying to be as fair as possible, so try and give me the benefit of the doubt on that.
Anyone can write letters – if you would like to write one, we will publish it.
And the allowances, it’s Neal’s story, not mine. The editor makes the decisions on what goes in the paper, so I would imagine it will go in next week’s paper. If not, you’d need to take it up with him.
I realise that I’m the main point of contact for political stories, but it doesn’t all come under my jurisdiction. I’m just a reporter and can only do so much. As I say, I have no doubt that people will doubt me on this, but everyone WILL get a fair bite at the cherry. I only have 800 or so words for a political feature so I can’t get all 15 in. Feel free to email me or call me if you want further clarification, but I’m off next week so I may not be around.
Is there a fourth candidate in Worsley & Eccles South? They are keeping themselves pretty quiet if so…
