Something i hope we never forget

In the 38-year Operation Banner, which ended in 2007, 763 servicemen and women were killed as a direct result of terrorism. It is estimated that the true total, including car crashes, suicides and friendly fire, stands at more than 1,300. More than 6,000 were wounded, some of them permanently disabled.

At the height of the Troubles in 1972 there were 27,000 British troops based in Ulster compared to 8,000 in Afghanistan and 4,000 in Iraq today. It was also the worst year for casualties with 102 soldiers killed.

Strange to see some Tories talking about Bloody Sunday.

I wonder if any of them who have just got past shaving have any idea what it was like over there?

  1. Training how to drive when you had missiles thrown at you,if you closed down the vehicles hatches you ended up with whitewash over the glass so you had to open your hatch and get bricked.
  2. In the early days you were welcomed later the women banged the dustbin lids to warn you were coming.
  3. No go areas.
  4. Crude bombs packed with nails.
  5. Later semtex and high powered weapons.
  6. Money coming in from America to buy arms
  7. Knee capping not a pretty sight when you see a nine millimetre round thats just blown out some ones knee.
  8. Used sanitary towels in peoples pockets for you to find when they are being searched.
  9. Fancy having a look at your mate or what’s left of him when his vehicle as ran over a bomb
  10. And the stinking blind fear that many young kids went through.

Innocent people died people failed and people lost their lives, i was hoping this page in our history would die and go away and let these people rest, will it ? No there were many officers like many i met who should not have been there. and many young men who lost control. things changed later the rules of engagement when going to shoot were strict perhaps they came to Late.

Don’t Forget take a good look at the total payments in special allowances to Councillors this month.

Like i say no one should be out of pocket for doing a job, but should we have,

Leaders allowances

Outside bodies

Non executive directors

Scrutiny chairs

And my favourite the guys who assist lead members, but can’t offer any flaming answers?

It’s not a public duty any more, a lot of people are getting fat off the land, I wonder will they suffer under the Lib/con cuts? not a chance.

This off Mr Kingston the Salford Star i wonder why Salford Council get worried when he shows his face.

SALFORD NDC WAGE INCREASE

Star date: 15th June 2010

CHARLESTOWN AND LOWER KERSAL NDC STAFF 10% WAGE RISE

While everyone else is being told to tighten financial belts, some staff at the New Deal for Communities in Salford have been awarded a 10% `plusage’ on their wages because, a Salford City Council notice states, “It is imperative to retain leadership and other staff”…

However, according to latest published figures, the NDC is already spending a greater percentage of its budget on `Management and Administration’ than on things like Health and Community Safety…

This off my good friend John warmishams blog and to be honest i agree with him 100%

Cuts to local government make a mockery of Cameron’s claim that “we’re all in this together”

The Tory Communities Secretary Eric Pickles has today announced a raft of cuts to local government totalling £1.165bn. The cuts have been made from funding streams within the Area Based Grant, which is targeted at councils in areas with high levels of deprivation, not from the councils’ formula grant.

Responding to the announcements, Sir Jeremy Beecham, Leader of the LGA Labour Group said: “These cuts will be a major blow to people up and down the country who depend on services that are now to be slashed. While the Lib Dem-Tory Coalition sit in their Westminster offices tearing up funding for grants, the harsh reality of these cuts will be all too painfully felt in our communities.

“Victims of Pickles’ axe include initiatives to tackle worklessness in England’s most deprived areas, housing related support to vulnerable people and programmes to boost community cohesion in poor areas. Housing delivery funding has also been cut, undermining the prospects for crucial housing development that the Labour Government worked so hard to support through the recession.

“Cameron’s claim that ‘we are all in this together’ has today been exposed as a sham. By choosing to cut a grant that is targeted at councils in areas with high levels of deprivation, the Lib Dem-Tory Coalition has shown it is all too willing to let the poorest shoulder the greatest burden. The Government has taken the first opportunity to slash funding for services on which vulnerable people depend.

“This ‘new politics’ is unfortunately the same old Tory wolf in sheep’s clothing – only this time the Liberal Democrats are colluding in the shameful enterprise.”
