I thought I might blame you!
Thanks.
It’s good to hear from you. Nothing personal it’s politics. It’s a shame the people don’t see the real you. I think at the moment though you hold all the cards. A government made up of Tories and Liberals who would have seen that. When they have finished if they last out the term Labour will come back with a Landslide. It must be like manner from Heaven. It seems even funnier to see what’s left of the opposition within Salford it seems a waste of time you putting out a full strength team. You may as well put put the second string executive support members on council day. I hope the people of this city don t face massive cuts but sense prevails and the old Labour sprit that I remember comes out to fight. Good Luck
Joe.
Don’t count on it! We’re talking about the same Labour administration who continue to bail out the filthy rich in this city when they hit hard times, yet consistently fail to house thousands of it’s own citizens. If you don’t believe me take a stroll over to Compton House on a weekday morning to view the evidence (as I’m sure you all have)… despair is not the word.
At the election Labour didn’t campaign on an ‘anti-cuts’ platform, why? Because Alastair Darling told the Guardian at the end of March that if elected, Labour’s cuts would be worse and more brutal than under Thatcher! and never once ruled out cutting front-line services.
Chek Whyte, Praxis Developments, Countryside Properties, Peel Holdings and the Big Red Rugby Brigade are basking in the old Labour Spirit, sailing down the Irwell in their golden yacht laughing all the way back to their off-shore bank.
Last week the “Prime Minister” declared there will be £1.1 billlion of cuts to public services (job losses) in Greater Manchester. Labour’s own pre-election estimation was about the same figure. After Manchester, Salford is set to get the biggest beating out of that slice.
…but! We can get that £1.1 billion back.
I had to my hat off to John Merry and nearly ate it as I asked his views on the £100 billion Trident nuclear weapons replacement project which he condemned (not that he welds much influence of it) at Salford Question Time. Sadly the dearly departed Hazel Blears MP refused to do the same faced with the same question sat in the same chair a fortnight later.
One beacon of hope remains in the fact John spoke out against Trident before the election. Time to use your position and honour your voters in Broughton Cllr Merry, please call on the treacherous ConDems to Scrap the Nukes so we can get our £1.1billion back to save local jobs. Jobs equals social equity, equals growth and essentially a shrinkage of the apparent economic black-hole. Not even biscuits can escape!
Some how i can never see this lot giving up trident,The british government never get things in the right order. I rememeber training with the americans
we seemed to be short on every thing, they had what ever they needed. When you had fired on the ranges you even had to collect the bullet cases amd put them in canvass bags i suppose it was melted down, could you see the yanks doing that?no. Draining deisel from ambulances and living on crap
ration packs, But you can get billions for something like trident. The day we remember who we are and come to terms with it the better for every one.
