The funeral of Salford political activist Ken Keating will be on Friday 15th July. Ken’s family are keen for political activists who shared his politics to attend his funeral on Friday 15 July. (The Class War Federation book, Unfinished Business, was dedicated to Ken).

Some who followed Ken’s radical politics weren’t sure if they’d be welcome as they didn’t actually know him, but Ken’s family has made clear that they’d like to see people at the funeral.

Ken, a long-time socialist and anarchist, died aged 75 on 28th June this year.

For a long time he protested that “Salford Quays isn’t for Salford people” and questioned, like the Salford Star does today, where the jobs are for Salford people that are promised by redevelopers

My good mate Barry woodling told me about Ken and we watched a Video that Ken did at Salford Royal shortly before he died.Take some time out and watch it on U-tube. He seemed one interesting Guy.

Something to think about….

In May 2012 the Liberal Democrats in Salford will face their fiercest attacks ever from Salford Labour.Cllr Merry will find every thing they can to drag their party down.We of course will be contesting seats within key Liberal Democrat wards,we carry no baggage, and i would presume labour will not attack us because they feel we don’t provide a threat. We can offer a choice to the people of this city and Liberal Democrats must realise we are the nearest they will get to what the party stood for before joining the Tories. Salford Conservatives will care little if you fail, the same goes for the National party i ask if any one wishes to join with us and fight Labour you are welcome. We have the ability to put out a message, and we are getting together new members to help canvass your area of choice. We meet each month and any one is welcome to come along to see if it’s what you want from a Political Group.

A comment from someone who i respect

I am so glad my daughter and her family have moved from there, there are nice people, but the scrotes are making life hell and have run the estate into the ground. It is one big weed factory and nothing has or will be done about it. I remember when she first moved there just after the make a difference project had cleaned it all up,people took pride in the area, they had the wardens and things were ok,but now it is becoming an no go area.

It’s hard to attack a section of a ward for what in reality is showing signs of failure.many of the people on this estate i have known for many years you can see where they live because no matter how hard they find it due to financial hardship or age they keep their properties in good condition. The houses are good stock, well built and close to a local park and Green space, but the sad fact is even when you walk around during the day you have the feeling of intimidation.Even when i walked the streets as a Local Councillor i was asked on many occasions what the F-CK did i want or what was i doing.I lived next to the estate for 25 years and the record of crime, drugs, shooting, and Robbery was well known, don’t get me wrong this came from a small percentage of people. I with other Liberal Democrat Councillors arranged meetings we even at one stage had the Most senior Police Officer walk with us to talk the People and yet no one would talk with him.We held one meeting at the Local centre i would say we were Lucky if ten people braved the local villains to come along. My colleague at the time wrote an excellent letter to the MP Hazel Blears Cllr Cookes letter was passionate and to the Point for what help we received he may as well have kept his pen in his pocket. You see that is the one sad reality within Salford smaller parties find help less forthcoming.it offers little when results are needed for the people,Politics from the major parties ie Labour have played a major part in the failure to get the help these people need. I would ask one more question why have City west taken so much time in trying to rectify some of the shocking standards in regards to the properties i witnessed with party members while we canvassed the people of the area. If we don’t work together this area will become a no go area, and while millions are pumped in to the quays and Opera reigns for the few-People like Mr Clarkson will have all the ammunition he needs to mock this great city.
