Motorists have been caught up in early morning tailbacks on the A6 in Salford traffic problems caused by the start of roadworks on one of the main roads into Manchester city centre should soon ease, a council leader has said.

John it’s a bloody nightmare i went to my dentist in Bexley square today one hour early.i ended up turning on to Liverpool Road. i barely made it. What we have is a Car park,Yes the idea would have been great if the so called planners had done there jobs and planned,Thoughtless and inept as per the norm.

Salford Council has officially informed the Planning Inspectorate that it won’t defend Peel Holdings’ appeal against the refusal of planning permission to build 350 houses on the greenfield site of Burgess Farm in Walkden.

The strange Salford Council position will be looked into at a Planning Inspectorate Appeal Pre-inquiry Meeting on October 11th…

A quarter of English universities failed to meet their targets to admit substantially more disadvantaged students last year, a government watchdog has revealed .

Cambridge, Bristol, Exeter, Durham and University College London are among 23 institutions that admit making insufficient progress in widening their mix of applicants in 2009-10 – leading to accusations that the intake of the most selective universities is “increasingly privileged”. David Willetts, the universities minister, said the report was proof that social mobility had stalled.
