What a disgrace from the BBC!!!!

Salford Pensioners Convention and Salford Against Cuts

As part of the Pensioners Campaign Week…

Pensioners will hold a picket and lobby @Media City

We aim to draw attention to the age discrimination

that pensioners have received from the BBC’s

flagship politics show "Question Time."

5pm

Friday 28th October

Main Entrance – Media City(main reception area)

"Then we were told our representatives wouldn’t be able to cope with the lights and the stress of a live broadcast. It’s ridiculous and condescending and smacks of ageism."Dot Gibson

National Pensioners Convention BBC Question Time Campaign

For over two years, the NPC has been campaigning to secure a slot on the BBC’s flagship political programme, Question Time. Our argument remains a simple one: Britain’s biggest and most representative pensioners’ organisation should have the opportunity to appear on Question Time so that we can express the views and concerns of millions of older people.
Over the last few months, we have been leafleting the audience as they go into the programme, as it travels around the country. This will continue, but in the meantime we are asking supporters to send polite requests for the NPC to be invited onto the show to:

Salford Council has confirmed that a vote will be held in January 2012 on whether the city should have an elected mayor.

Well the question for me would be- If Cllr Merry as done the Job or not? but the people have spoken and no matter what political spin or views you have the people of the city will get their referendum. And we must never forget the people must be allowed to speak and offer their views they are the ones that count, it will be up to the political parties to argue there case.for or against. We all understand the Labour case,do you have a view? YES OR NO will the vote be swayed by the political party with the most money we wait in anticipation…..

Thought of the day 2

Could you imagine if you phoned up Salford Council and said things are a bit tight this month so i am taking a payment holiday? You would get a gasp and a letter threating to take you to court the next day. But in Salford Council it seems Payment holidays and Interest payment holidays are the norm. Why would you think we take payment holidays well to be a little cynical i think because we are struggling with the budgets and well its hard to knock down the reserves any further than they all ready are or reduce the insurance pots.I think some residents should go on the net and download the papers for the budget scrutiny panel they make very interesting reading. One more thought Steve Kingston raised the issue of the BBC band.Ask your self a second question why did we go into any agreements that sponsored the Orchestra?it was based at Oxford Road Oxford Road is coming to media city so where would the Band have gone? and to be honest as any one who reads this Blog seen it? worth the money just think what we could have done with £20 million pounds in my opinion one more of Cllr Merrys white Elephants on par with the Ice Rink and Salford Life.If people sat back and bothered to ask the questions they may be a little shocked on how much this Labour Council wastes perhaps when the Jobs start to disappear people may start to act.i believe one Tory asked the question did we really need all these people in relation to the jobs that have already gone the true face of the Tories?

Thought of the day.

Yesterday £275 Million on chapel Street.God knows how much on the quays, and all the money we seem to be pouring into a Rugby club. This all in the name of regeneration, but what of other parts of the city?large parts seem to go untouched streets full of holes, litter starting to show every where.Thousands live in houses that don’t meet a decent homes standard, crime is supposed to be down, but to be honest i would have my doubts about sitting down for a drink in some pubs.Only last week one young man my wife’s friends youngest son had his jaw broken on park street his friend beaten up for what?cheap beer taking it’s toll of Salford Kids. But according to Salford Labour you’ve

never had it so good. Perhaps Cllr Merry should have been brave enough to walk with me and visit the real Salford.

I remember well when Barbara Spicer Joined the Council they took her around the city in a mini bus, perhaps if she had got out and spoken with the people she may have seen the reality of what we face each day. I suppose when you are shielded by the Town hall walls and the plush carpets you loose all track of time and reality. People across this city are starting to suffer there children have no futures and the old fear to walk out after dark in some parts. Is this the future we expected?Councillor Merry talks of people coming in to the city but when you ask the simple question are these economic migrants no answers are forthcoming, I wonder why.Thursday Labour will take the Eccles seat and Labour will tell the city they have a mandate, the reality is they have no mandate the truth is we have no real opposition but like they say change is going to come,we need your help to fill the gaps that will come after the may elections in the City,do you have the time and the will to fight for change? if so call us.
