A Salford Star Exclusive LITTLE HULTON PRIMARY PARENTS AND STAFF CHALLENGE COUNCIL TO PUT DUKESGATE ACADEMY SWITCH TO THE VOTE AS ANOTHER 20 SALFORD SCHOOLS UNDER THREAT Parents and staff from Dukesgate Primary School in Little Hulton called for the right to vote over the future of their school last night. Parents questioned the speed of the switch to academy status and admitted confusion, while the NUT accused Salford Council of taking up to half a million pounds out of Salford schools’ budgets for the running of its Academy Trust, without the majority of councillors even knowing what’s been going on. Parents and staff from Dukesgate voted unanimously to challenge Salford Council to put the academy change to a democratic vote. |

Salford Star did not as usual ask me to comment . Central government have made it clear that Dukesgate will be compelled to become an Academy. Therefore the choice posed in the star is entirely false. The choice is who will sponsor the Academy and I believe that is better the council preserves some influence by working with Salford College
