ASDA TOLD `GO ROT IN HELL’ AS SALFORD COUNCIL APPROVES CONTROVERSIAL SUPERMARKET

Campaigners against ASDA’s controversial plans to build a supermarket on top of a Swinton burial ground have vowed to keep up the fight after Salford Council’s planning panel approved the scheme last week.

Campaigners have alleged that during the panel meeting Labour Councillor Norbert Potter said that he didn’t know what all the fuss was about concerning the ground (where 73 children are buried), it was just a `dogs’ toilet’.

  1. Well, this is one of the most contentious planning applications I have ever known about. I must admit that if I had any descendents buried here I would be outraged, the dead should rest in peace. However, myself and many other people I know did not know that there was a burial ground here until the development was announced, which begs the question, why is the site so neglected and who let it become so many years ago? I would also mention that this type of development is not unusual, I can think of other parts of the country where this has happened with Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Waitrose. In some cases the actual church has also been retained as part of a supermarket development with the burial ground exhumed and relocated. Housing developments have also been built on burial grounds in the past. Unfortunately as demand for new housing and amenities increases, this type of development will increase.

  2. There is an “Notice of intent” in todays Advertiser. There is nothing about any right of appeal. I have a family plot at Agecroft and I have the deeds to that plot. I wonder have any of the famlies any deeds or paperwork. So it looks like once a grave yard has been closed for x amout of years the powers that be can just go ahead and remove peoples loved ones with no respect for the dead. What a bloody rotten world we are living in. Even the dead are treated with total contempt.
I hope these greedy bastards can sleep at night, but there again they will be too busy counting their money to be bothered. (REST IN PEACE) THATS NOW A BLOODY JOKE.

  3. Yes Mary everything you say is right, they just dont give a damn for the people of Salford, that is why, even though I had decided to retire from politics, I am seriously considering the formation of a new political party, one which is made up of people from all political backgrounds and who all have one thing in common, A love of Salford, no longer would we be subjected to the whims of London or mainstream party edicts, it would be Salford people running Salford for the people of Salford, not just an ego trip for people without the skills or ability to go into mainstream politics who just see it as a “nice little earner”.If I can get enough people interested I would give it a try, who’s going to join me ?

  4. Reg if you need a candidate when you get it off the ground, PLEASE put my name forward. I was thinking for just sitting back and let this lot do what they do best SOD all and line the pockets of people like PEEL, TESCO,WINLIKNSON and we can now add ASDA to a list that I am sure if we could dig deep would go on and on. So Reg let me know who and what and if it rocks my boat and ticks the box I am IN. Think you have my phone number or get my email address.
