If i had a pound for every time someone said what was it like in Council i would be rich, others ask how did i ever get mixed up with the Liberal Democrats i have to blame a work mate at the time Lynn Drake for that, but make no mistakes the people in Salford have voted out in my opinion the only thing that was holding back Labour, i sincerely believe Labour took us seriously as the biggest threat they had ever had,of course the Conservatives held more numbers for what ever use they where. The Tories followed their masters in London and outside Worsley cared little for the inner city. I came from a solid left wing background ,my old man was a docker and my old lady worked in the sweat shops on Bury New road so Labour was the choice for us, and of course the Tories were for the rich, god how i believed that crap but when you were feed it through a straw every day it came easy. I still remember some of Kinnocks speeches and Michael foot in his donkey jacket and of course the suns campaigns against Red Ken,Tony Ben and the remnants of Liverpool council. Labour were unelectable so we saw Thatcher a women hated and a Government that destroyed a Generation, but of course the masses are easily lead by the media and we see them back today. I fought hard to get elected as a Liberal Democrats not because of the orange book and their policies what i witnessed was a bunch of hard nosed activist willing to fight the Labour Machine,it was exciting to be amongst them, but sadly i was in reality to much like Norman we fought like cat and Dog but i really think the people of Claremont will regret his passing. I witnessed the Liberal Democrats at their peek in Salford and of Course the wipe-out this year, god how sad i felt that night to see the people of Salford follow their impulses and vote for a Labour Rosette lacking in policy but with the backing of it’s union pay masters destroy the opposition in Salford. Today we see the realisation of Labour a Party that chooses a Mayor over it’s leader even though he was dismissed in favour of both a Cheque waving blears and the one from worsley that no one remembers her name , it says a lot. In Council i witnessed a labour party run by the few and whipped to fall in line, many never spoke from one council meeting to the next finding time to read the Guardian Newspaper or play suduko eagerly waiting for their dinner. The quality of many was poor, in Scrutiny meetings they followed what ever their masters feed them we had little chance to make the decisive change, from in house papers,Fairgrounds that lost thousands or the destruction of peoples homes,we would call in issues that we felt wrong but were out voted by sheep . That is the sad reality of Labour today i carry on with friends to try to rebuild something that one day could offer what we had ,I fight from a Green left standpoint and i hope our new leader will come from the left i hope the media circulate to the masses our policies, apathy should never be allowed to Grow people must take a stand unless you wish to see a Council led by sheep and unwilling to raise their voices for fear of losing their seats and allowances.
