SALFORD COUNCIL TO CLOSE SURE START CHILDREN’S CENTRES

“These centres provide a lifeline to children and parents who would otherwise be isolated” Sue Campayne, parent
Salford City Council is proposing to slash Sure Start Children’s Centres in the city, from services currently offered within 15 buildings to four `hubs’ based in six buildings in a move that will see over £1million slashed from the budget and up to 17 posts axed.

The Council intends to shut centres including Fiddlers Lane in Irlam, St Paul’s Heathside in Walkden and Charlestown and Lower Kersal Sure Start Children’s Centre, much to the anger of parents who have already begun a campaign to oppose the cuts.
