A woman was killed and five other people injured in a stabbing attack in central London on Wednesday night.
Armed police were called at 10.33 pm after a man armed with a knife started to attack people in London’s Russell Square. Police arrived at the scene of the crime within five minutes of the attack and arrested a 19-year-old man after Tasering him. The suspect was taken to hospital, where he was in police custody.
The motive for the attack was being investigated and police were exploring various lines of inquiry, including terrorism. Commander Mark Rowley said:
It worries me that with the rise in terrorism and general upsurge in crime we are cutting Police numbers on our streets. In todays climate we should be increasing not reducing. Are we seriously also going to carry on allowing people to enter this country without adequate control?the rise in immigration and freedom of movement within Europe is creating all the ingredients of a disaster. No serious Government can allow it’s people to face this indiscriminate murder on our streets without losing the support of it’s people..
