After spending £158,000 on consultants KPMG, and proposing a loss of 380 jobs in its latest `Think Efficiency’ document, it’s good to know that the forever skint Salford City Council is right on the case. It’s about to employ a new `Think Efficiency – Programme Manager’ – salary, a mere £52,732 -£56,912!

Perhaps the Think Efficiency Programme manager’s first job should be to look at bonus payments made to Salford City Council managers and staff. Last year (2007/8) bonuses worth £1,456,500 were paid out, the highest in Greater Manchester and the 18th highest amount in the country.

Then, perhaps, the second job should be look at the salaries of the `Think Efficiency’ staff…
